Withington based retrofitters, Edge EPC, has accessed new markets and increased headcount following support from Green Economy.
Edge EPC specialise in optimising the energy efficiency of domestic properties, cutting carbon footprints and energy bills for their clients. They approached Green Economy for support in March 2024 looking for help in growing their businesses.
Thalia Czarkowska, Green Technology Consultant, began working with the Dave Whyte, Director of Edge EPC, identifying several opportunities to help them access new sales and drive growth through marketing, planning and sales.
Thalia recommended the business join the Green Leaders programme which helps businesses to drive growth through collaborative learning on key topics including Leadership, Marketing and Sustainability.
Dave Whyte, Director at Edge EPC said:
“The Green Leaders workshops helped us to streamline our business plan and marketing strategy. We place strong emphasis on social value at Edge, so it’s great to have the tools to communicate this to our clients and place social value at the core of our messaging.”
Thalia also carried out an in-depth competitor analysis for Edge EPC which was used to inform their routes to market, accreditations they would benefit from having, and what content to include and spotlight on their website.
In addition to skills development, Edge EPC joined several Green Economy networking events to raise their profile further.
A key offering from Green Economy is benefitting from opportunities from partner organisations and public sector contracts and frameworks. In Greater Manchester, there are several ongoing schemes that help homeowners to improve the efficiency of their home, including Your Homes Better and Feel the Benefit, and Green Economy plays a key role in connecting local suppliers to deliver the domestic retrofit projects which are identified through these schemes.
Edge EPC have been working directly with Your Homes Better to deliver work on domestic retrofit projects.
Dave said:
“There is a real drive to improve the efficiency of homes in Greater Manchester, with benefits for the homeowner or landlord, as well as the wider community. Engaging with these programmes has been a gamechanger for our business growth. We’ve increased sales and increased headcount by four to manage demand.”
Edge also received support from Green Economy’s decarbonisation team who reviewed their environmental policy and advised on how the policy could be structured and communicated in the clearest manner possible. They also worked with the GM Business Growth Hub’s Social Value team who helped them to translate their social value activities into a formal strategy.
This specialist support has helped to refine Edge EPC’s policy, highlighting the necessary information to include, and ensuring the structure outlines the key points of their strategy, ensuring each point was precise in its goal-setting, relevant to the organisation’s abilities and ambition, and deliverable.
